Try contacting retirement homes in your area, I’m sure the management will be able to tell you what age you need to be. Bless you for wanting to volunteer. There are so many lonely elderly people who would appreciate your kindness and company.

The best answer to this is to ask at the retirement home you are considering. But, I believe, from seeing volunteers at the one my Mother was in, that you would have to be at least 16.

What a wonderful thing to consider doing. You and your friend would bring so much cheer to the residents. Too often they don’t get many visitors and are lonely. My heart broke sometimes when I saw how many have no one for them, I went everyday to visit my Mother. Luckily, I lived close by and could. You are great kids.

I know people who did volunteer work at retirement homes when they were 15/16. I’m sure it would depend on what kind of work you would be doing, the extent of your experience, and the individual retirement home. I would definitely call a few places an ask. I know they are always looking for volunteers. And if that doesn’t work out, you might want to try being a candy striper at a hospital. Also, keep in mind that right about now many summer camps are looking for volunteer counselors. It can be a little hard to find contact information, but they generally take people in high school. Hope that helps.

My daughter started doing volunteer work at a retirement home when she was 16. You would really have to check with the home that you wish to help out at. And Good For you!

It really depends on the retirement home. I starting going to one when i was 12. I would give out ice cream to the eldery, help with making creative projects, and help out with small stuff. I went with my 14 year old brother, he would wheel ppl around and do the big stuff.
