Then talk to them all *again*. And *again*. That bit in the game was really obnoxious. If you've already done that and you can see the servant cleaning you should be able to throw something at the water jug above his head, making him wet. Then talk to the butler, deceive him, and you should be good to go. Of course, I'm doing this by memory. Talk to everyone (deceive all of them). Then talk to them all *again*. And *again*.
