It seems that must Americans still have a one-pay-check mentality. Many people feel that Social Security will not help much (if any). Company retirement offerings for retirement get smaller all the time. Still we continue in the same reckless path of having one job and no real retirement plan. The new "Plan B" for successful retirement is a "multiple streams of income" mentality. Keep your regular job to earn a living wage and start a small home based business for retirement funding. If you choose the right kind of small business you can grow a long term residual income and dump all your extra cash into stocks or mutual funds.

This plan can earn you millions on a long term basis. It also creates great tax savings for now.
This is the reason that I teach these small business success lessons to young people. Those who follow my simple suggestions will have large retirement funds and often can retire early.

Thanks for the great question. It has allowed me to to stand on my soap box and make this speech once more. EVERYONE SHOULD PLAN FOR RETIREMENT. IT IS SO EASY!

Money of course but also considering desired lifestyle so you don't end up sitting in front of tv all day.
Sometimes the best laid plans go bad but at least have a real plan.
My brother retired in August and decided on a part time job and quit that already because it wasn't fun. He also owns a small business that has always been referral only and is now considering trying to get more business since he has time.
General goals like fishing more or traveling more often fail because you don't have the time pressure so don't actually do it.

I don't have to concern myself with this problem. After doing the calculations, I have determined that I will be able to comfortably retire from work exactly 3 years and 4 months after I am dead.
