Read the classified in Korea. In USA you need a teaching degree to teach ESL. Or if you find private students maybe you don’t need a degree. I assume your moving to Korea. Good Luck

You can definitely teach ESL without a bachelor’s. You would need a TESOL certificate (or CELTA) to be considered legit and be saleable. You could get private students this way.

I teach ESL in the US and I have heard from several Korean students who are here studying English that the ESL teachers in Korea are very highly qualified. I think you would almost definitely need at least a BA/BS (in addition to specific ESL training) to get a job at a school in Korea.

However, you may be able to get private students. And I would think that you could sell yourself to some people by selling the fact that you were in the military for a long time.

These are just my feelings from teaching students and what they have said. If I were you, I would also go to some of the ESL forums and pose your question. There, you will be able to connect with people who have vast experience, probably with the same issue, and from all over the world.

Good luck. It really is rewarding work.
