Do you think the UAW should go belly-up and have the workers go get jobs at a normal wage and benefit?

I’m sure we’d all like to have jobs where we can retire no matter our age after 20 years on the job, receive 80% of our salary for life plus full health coverage for our families as well, or if we are laid off receive 75% of our salary and not have to go to work, but then let’s all just wake up to reality please. If you really think that what the UAW is asking for is reasonable, and that they are not 95% responsible for the US auto industry being in the $hithouse right now, then you can go ahead and rant at me or other posters, but personally I think it is an unAmerican outrage that they think they deserve that. They are tearing down a huge slice of America and Americana, but that’s just my opinion. What’s yours?
What are normal wages and benefits? - That would be exactly what the Japanese pay our workers in the factories in the South. Notice that Japanese car companies are THRIVING in the US and they are providing thousands of jobs but in a managable way. How do they do it? They choose right to work states, NO UNIONS. Do you EVER hear complaints from the workers concerning thier conditions, wages or benefits? NO

Yes. The UAW is corrupt and in bed with the National Socialist Democratic Party. They really do not have the workers’ best interests at heart. They just collect the dues, line their pockets and give the rest to the Democrats.

I would like to see the auto industry go belly up. The finance industry too. I would like to see the govt go belly up as well and millions of people in the streets putting politicians up against the wall and blowing their brains out. I would like to see Arnold Swartzennegger dragged thru the streets on a hundred mile long ticket tape parade. I would like to see people in America united around something. I would like to see the neonazi uber right stop calling liberal knee jerk politicians ******. What else is new.

The biggest thing unions demanded was healthcare, which was the largest company expenditure on worker’s behalf. Would you like 90hr workweeks, child labor, and 3 bathroom breaks per day?

Mine is I don’t think you know what you are talking about!

You don’t seem to mind when corporate welfare is ripping us off, and the UAW are far from the highest paid workers!

And why is it only free enterprise for CEO’s and not for the workers? You want it both ways. That is not the way our economic system works, which you seem to fail to understand!

Corporations and crooked politicians are tearing down America, along with those who don’t have a clue about what they profess to know! And you can include you $22 Million a year CEO’s. Three percent of the population own almost ALL of America, and none belong to the UAW!

    No they should not.

They are people with families to support too.

I do not hear all you complain about the teachers union.

In Chicago many teachers their make 65 to 100k a year. Full benefits, every weekend and holiday off, 3 months in the summer off. A week at Spring break and Christmas break.

So you jealous fools who wish you had it better.

You fools who are complaining because obama instructs you too

    Are truly Pathetic

You want better with your life, do it. Go get a job that pays more. Yes you can if you want.

Labor is only 10% of the cost of a car, so even if GM paid minimum wage they would still be in trouble, Blaming the unions for their troubles is popular but wrong. If companies want to keep a large trained work force available but does not need them all of the time, they provide benefit to them when they are laid off so they will not go find full time jobs. It is very costly for companies to train new workers when they work with expensive equipment, because new workers make very costly mistakes.

Many countries provide most workers with the benefits like those that UAW auto workers get. Instead on complaining about what they are getting, you should try to figure out why the rest of are not. We average a GDP per worker of about $75,000 a , and yet the most common salary is $20,000 a year and the average wage is under $40,000 and that includes college graduates who work for wages.

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
The corrupt greedy UAW will destroy the American Car makers.
At the Capitol Hill the talks came close to success but failed when the UAW refused to commit to lowering its pay-and-benefits package in 2009 so it would be competitive. The Japanese companies in America have a lower pay and better cars. Americans cars do not sell well because number one they cost more to make and they are not what Americans want to buy for the most part.
I would not bail them out with tax payers money unless UAW agree to lower benefits in line with Japanese made cars in America. Also lay off all the CEOs with no extra money to get rid of them.

Yes, the UAW is a leach that has ****** the big 3 dry and now is trying to do the same to the American tax payer. It is immoral, disgusting, and down right evil for the UAW to demand that my tax money go to provide them with what amounts to welfare, and if our government falls for this UAW scheme the decent people of America must rise to save America from this evil that will eventually destroy our country.

Of course. I ain’t giving them my tax dollars so they can **** it dry again. Let them go work at McDonald’s instead or something.

The only way to save the Big Three is to dissolve the UAW, fire all the current workers, and hire illegal immigrants to do the job, better and for $5/hour.

I fully agree, the UAW has also been a utterly corrupt organization from the begining. The UAW has caused this automotive industry as much of the existing financial problems as the inept management. In the past the UAW and all unions served a great positive purpose for the working man, but they are out of date and have become liabilities rather than assets

Both management and the union are to blame. If they are going to save their jobs they are going to have to work together. If they like some of our more stupid politicians think that unionizing the auto plants in the South is the answer then they are wrong because all that will do is drive more jobs out of te USA. The reason our companies move to other countries is because we want high wages and more benifits but we want to buy the products dirt cheep and that just does not work.

Ummm…no. The companies should be blamed for poor management and not seeing the writing on the wall years ago.

Why do Americans **** unions so much? So many of you buy into the Fox News propaganda of unions being the ones destroying your country. It’s just sad that you cannot see beyond the deceit. Fox and other exploiters have a vested interest in keeping unions as the baddies. News Ltd is one of the most anti-union employers around.

you are a little off in your figures…. when you’re laid off it’s a minimum of 75% and up to 95% and that is for up to 5 years.

the unions are being greedy as always. to say they won’t make a change until 2011 is selfish and ignorant.
