After retiring from the Air Force and getting a civilian job, would I still get retirement benefits?

Lets say I join the Air Force for 20 years and leave when I turn 40 or 41. If I decide not to get another job, would I be able to collect retirement paychecks? Lets say I do get a job, could I still collect?

You will collect benefits for life…job or no job. The only time you would not collect a retirement check is if your NEW job was with the federal government because you can’t double dip. You can, however, get a job in state government. So, apart from a government job after retirement, you will get pay and benefits for life.

Yes, you will still get your retirment benefits.

Rumsfield was getting Naval retirement pay, while he was secretary of defense, along with his salary for being SOD

correction, if you retire from the military you will get your pay no matter what that you are entitled to. i have GS workers (gov. service) who are retired and still get money. you get half the base pay of your retired rank and you will have a health care with tri care for a small amount. also the exchange, commissary, and the MWR benefits. also while you’re iin they have TA (tuition assistance) which means you wont have to touch your G.I. bill till after you get out. good luck!
