Where can I find affordable life insurance for sr citizen in-laws?

Sunday, September 26th, 2010
arklatexrat asked:

I read a previous thread suggesting MediCare, but I am not talking about HEALTH insurance. They only have term life insurance tied to current job, and they need to retire. They have no burial policy, and each is worried about leaving the other with burial expenses and debts. I have seen a few ads online, but when you get to the fine print, they seem mostly like scams. They probably wouldn’t get a very good rating if a health exam were required. Probably $15 -$25K max would be the amount needed. They live in Texas if that matters.

I want to join the delayed enlistment program and my parents want me to be an MP so I have job skills, but I want to be in the infantry and hopefully one day a scout sniper. Can you give me some advice on how to convince them? (pros, not cons) I have until august and my parents don’t wanna see me dead or leave the USMC without job skills. I plan on retiring, though.

titleGolf Divot Tools - One of the Best Golf Gifts/titleProper golf etiquette is that you repair any damage to the putting surface, especially damage due to a ball. The game of golf is complex and has a steep learning curve, however; using golf divot repair tools is not difficult. Golf course personnel may ask you to leave the course if you don’t repair divots on the putting green. p A golf divot repair tool is a small, hand-held tool designed to repair divots left on the green by your golf ball. Look for a golf ball mark on the green near your ball. Place the golf divot tool into the ground just to the outside of the divot. Many golfers try to lift the ground right out and set it back, but moving the ground closer together works best. Move the golf divot tool from side to side in the divot to bring all of the grass back to where it should be. p Divot Tools, Divot Repair Tool, Divot Tool Ball Marker, Golf Divot Tools are all names for the tool that is used by golfers to repair a Golf Course green when a golf ball makes a divot on a green. If the quality of the green is poor due to golfers not repairing their ball marks, the result will be putts going off line and the golfer’s score going up. There s no reason a golfer should be playing this game without this simple and affordable piece of golf equipment. p You, probably, know quite a few people who love to play golf. There are many gifts that are great for golfers, but why not give that golfer something they will use not only every time they play, but multiple times during every round of golf. The idea of giving someone a divot repair tool can sound pretty dull, especially if the person giving the gift is not a golfer. So, while you may just spend $10 on a gift, to the recipient golfer, it is a very functional and personal gift that they are sure to appreciate. p Divot tools are available in a wide variety of materials, colors, and personalization options. You can even get divot repair tools with built in cigar cutters and a little stand so the golfer can put his cigar down while hitting his shot. Golf divot tools are pretty inexpensive, but the best part is they can be personalized or customized in a lot of different ways. If you re looking for a golf gift you can t go wrong with a golf divot repair tool. p Find your favorite brands of a href=http://www.teeitupproshop.com golf accessories/a and other golf products at discount prices at our online golf shop at www.teeitupproshop.com.

titleBackyard Bird Watching As A Hobby/titleBirdwatching is your lifetime ticket to the theater of nature. Birding often involves a significant auditory component, as many bird species are more readily detected and identified by ear than by eye. Backyard bird watching is an inexpensive and relatively easy way to get involved in birding as a hobby. p Backyard bird watching is somewhat different in intensity and style than going out into the field to view the birds of the area. Backyard bird watching is a fun and enjoyable thing to do. Backyard bird watching is a calming hobby and may provide hours amusement where it’s done correctly. Backyard bird watching is a hobby that can be enjoyed by children as well as adults. Many folks find that backyard bird watching is a great way to get introduced to the activity. p Two factors influence birding, seasons and weather. The most active times of the year for birding in temperate zones are during the spring or fall migrations when the greatest variety of birds may be seen. p For avid an birdwatcher, or those who just wish to ask nature to be near a house, bird feeders set down a welcome mat for feathered guests. Wooden feeders have are a favorite and often beautiful, although practicality speaking the best bird feeders are made of plastic or metal materials since these hold up so well and are easy to wash. Good quality bird feeders can be taken apart easily for cleaning. Hummingbird feeders must be washed out more often than a seed feeder. I take my feeders apart and use my large laundry sink to thoroughly wash all the parts in warm soapy water before rinsing in the mild bleach bath. If you don’t have a large sink, a bathtub works well for this job if you have large feeders to clean. You can view several species of birds if you put up a variety of bird feeders placed in correct areas which will provide the birds suitable shelter. Be certain to protect birds by keeping your feeders clean. p There are 3 various styles of bird feeders: tray, hopper or tube. Tray feeders may be hung up by being suspended from trees or shepherd’s crooks, or bottom mounted on poles. The more popular foods to use in tray feeders are peanuts, wildlife mix or sunflower seeds. Hopper bird feeders appeal to both small and large birds, including the beloved northern cardinal. Tube bird feeders are cylindrical in form and usually have gaps which permit birds to get at the seeds. Tube bird feeders generally attract smaller woodland birds such as wrens, chickadees and titmice. p You’ll find a wide range of gardening tools, a href=http://www.backyardgardenshop.com/18-Bird_Feeders.htmlbackyard bird feeders/a, backyard bird houses, and other convenient supplies at BackyardGardenShop.com.

33 retired US military generals and admirals say climate change threatens US national security - do you agree?

Sunday, September 12th, 2010
Dana1981 asked:

Today 33 retired US military generals and admirals announced that they support comprehensive climate and energy legislation. Here is the text of the letter:

Dear Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell,

Climate change is threatening America’s security. The Pentagon and security leaders of both parties consider climate disruption to be a “threat multiplier” – it exacerbates existing problems by decreasing stability, increasing conflict, and incubating the socioeconomic conditions that foster terrorist recruitment. The State Department, the National Intelligence Council and the CIA all agree, and all are planning for future climate-based threats.

America’s billion-dollar-a-day dependence on oil makes us vulnerable to unstable and unfriendly regimes. A substantial amount of that oil money ends up in the hands of terrorists. Consequently, our military is forced to operate in hostile territory, and our troops are attacked by terrorists funded by U. S. oil dollars, while rogue regimes profit off of our dependence. As long as the American public is beholden to global energy prices, we will be at the mercy of these rogue regimes. Taking control of our energy future means preventing future conflicts around the world and protecting Americas here at home.

It is time to secure America with clean energy. We can create millions of jobs in a clean energy economy while mitigating the effects of climate change across the globe. We call on Congress and the administration to enact strong, comprehensive climate and energy legislation to reduce carbon pollution and lead the world in clean energy technology.
http://www.trumanproject.org/files/misc/Truman_Project_-_Clean_Energy_Ad.pdf

It was the largest such announcement of support ever, reflecting the consensus of the national security community that climate change and oil dependence pose a threat American security. I’ll be interested to see how deniers spin this one. Do you agree with these retired military experts that climate change threatens US national security and we should enact carbon regulation to address it?
jim says Wow, I knocked that one out of the park.

I hope he’s joking, but knowing jim, he probably believes that.
Ah yes thank you bravozulu for chiming in with your expected brilliance. Retired generals are trying to advance their careers. You’re a regular Einstein.

Why do people think Hawaii is so great?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Go For Broke asked:

I was born and raised in downtown Honolulu all my life until recently I moved to Fresno. Almost every person I met tells me how they wish they can trade places and me and didnt understand why I moved away from Hawaii.

Hawaii is VERY expensive, more expensive then NYC or any big cities because Hawaii’s pay is low compared to those cities. Traffic is horrendous! You hear stories of pedestrians being runned over weekly. Yes, the weather is nice, the beach is nice, and the food is good. The problem is that most people work SEVERAL jobs just to stay afloat and make ends meet. They dont have much of a chance to enjoy the beach as much as most people think. I rarely had time for the beach when I used to live there. Its all work, work, work.

The truth is Hawaii is divided by the rich Asians and Whites who recently retired and live comfortably and the vast majority who are working their ***** off to live in paradise.

I hope people realize that its not greener on the otherside.
