Why do some ppl have the nice nice hair, the nice skin, the nice paychecks, the nice jobs, houses that are?

Monday, June 28th, 2010
little lamb asked:

paid for in just 15 years, retirement at 50. While some ppl like me have thinning hair and have to wear a weave, a plain old brown skin complexion, no paychecks, can barely get a job making 10 bucks an hour. If I do own a home it will take 70 yrs. to pay for it I won’t be able to retire until I’m 100, if when I find decent job.
my last couple of jobs have only paid per hr. I’ve never made over 10 bucks in life.
8.50 per hr.
Some ppl don’t go to college they have that

Why isn`t there a cutoff age for people in government to retire ?

Saturday, June 26th, 2010
Patches asked:

For instance - McCain is too old to take on being President . The average person holding a job is looking for the day to retire or are forced to retire . Our politicians are very greedy in holding on to jobs meant for the younger generation that need to work and have families to support .

How do you military officers like your jobs?

Friday, June 25th, 2010
NSU Senior asked:

I’m looking at joining the military this fall as an officer in either the Air Force or Army. I will have my bachelor’s in Criminal Justice in a couple weeks, so I will likely be looking at an MOS in policing or security. I was just looking to get a little perspective from some of the current and retired officers on how they liked being an officer. I know there are a number of different jobs and it will vary based on that, but I just wanted to know what it’s really like without the bias of a recruiter or scripted web page. Here’s some guidance of what I’m looking for:

What did you actually do over a typical day’s work during deployment/dwell time?

How is the quality of life?

How were the working hours during your time stateside?

How much time did you actually spend with your soldiers?

Describe your experience at OCS. (If you went).

How did your job change as you moved up from platoon leader?

How much actual combat did you see?

What is your college major?

Describe your experience with your on the job training with the platoon sergeant.

Anything else you can think of, please feel free to include. I know plenty of enlisted guys that gave me their aspects of the military, but no one can give me any insight as to what officers do. Army and Air Force officers are preferred, but Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard officers are also welcome to share their experiences.

Thanks in advance!!!
Thanks for the answers so far. I know you don’t join as an officer, but rather as an officer candidate and you have to earn your commission. As far as the job part of it goes, from what I understand, you get assigned to your job based on your qualifications, correct? When I said I’d be looking at security or policing, that’s because my resume is mostly crammed with jobs in security and police, along with a degree in CJ. But my personal experience aside, a follow-up question: Assuming that you are correct, will I know my job before signing any contracts as you would for enlisted?

Thanks again!

Are the best people scared off TA SEN jobs?

Monday, June 21st, 2010
Max asked:

I think SEN jobs and TA jobs are very well suited to young, energetic professionals, and graduates with a solid academic history. Obviously they appeal to people who want to help, who have a sense of empathy with children.

But how on earth does the profession expect to lure in this kind of candidate? With salaries at best reaching around £16,000 - £17,000 with qualifications and experience ( starting at less than £8,000 PER ANNUM for those without!) why would graduates do this to themselves?

We are filling these important roles with well-meaning mums and retired ladies who don’t really need the money. These job should NOT be pocket money jobs, they should be professional careers that attract specialists.

What can be done to encourage a higher quality of candidate?
Cath. As you may already know, TAs are increasingly being asked to do supply teaching, or at the very least supervise the class for extended periods of time. Sometimes certain children spend more time with their TA than their teacher. I have witnessed TAs failing to ammend obviously incorrect work. I have seen them write example sentences on the board that are full of mistakes and lacking adequate punctuation. HLTAs are in effect, very poorly paid teachers.
In addition to this, many TAs have to work with children with learning disorders. I suggest that such TAs need to be professionals with experience if not expertise in dealing with these kids. If my child is autistic, I don’t want some friendly, middle-aged governor to step in and assist. I want a professional person who has trained or worked with such specific problems before. TA work and SEN work SHOULD NOT be a dinner-lady type role for middle-aged ladies with no qualifications. I’m surprised you don’t agree

How will you retire with the destruction of jobs and benefits?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010
Mozart asked:

Jobs are precarious, subject to dismissal on someone’s whim. Small companies have a 70% failure rate. Health care costs rise at 3x the rate of inflation. Education costs rise 2x the rate of inflation.
Companies have eliminated pensions.

The average lifespan is 78yrs olds. Most company’s force retirement at 65. What are your plans for providing for your retirement?
How
My husband is getting his military retirement in 2 years. I have 9 more years till I can get mine. You have to learn to invest and save. Plan ahead for a rainy day.
You didn’t plan ahead. You get free retirement from the govt. And they’ll take govt pensions away just like corporate ones in the next 10 yrs.
It’s not worth it in the end, because you don’t know the end. The end isn’t here. Change is coming, and your pension will be drastically changed from what you’re promised. Just look at England’s soldier’s Pensions. It was changed right from under them.

Would you hire a errand service run by a male vs. female?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010
Z3 asked:

I am the owner of a business that keeps me working long hours some times six and seven days a week. I want to hire an errand service to handle small jobs. I live in a small town and have two choices, 1.) hire a 23 year old female who’s only been in biz for one year or 2.) a 55 year old semi-retired guy who’s been running an errand service for six years. What do you think? Who should I trust with the keys to my car, house, business papers and bank deposits?

Who are all these RICH people that create jobs?

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Sexy L asked:

Thanks to Republicans and 30 years of Reaganomics, it’s actually quite rare for an American to be hired and paid directly by a Rich Republican Small Business Person. No, most of America’s workforce is now employed by national and transnational CORPORATIONS. CORPORATIONS and not PEOPLE. Why can’t you CONS understand such simple facts?! In fact, most RICH Republicans also work for these companies if they aren’t yet retired. Those RICH guys are usually the managers that work to CUT and OUTSOURCE American jobs the most. So, you see … RICH people actually destroy jobs - they don’t create them. Then, when they go home they hire ILLEGAL mexicans to cut their grass. They don’t hire the local AMERICAN because he costs more money. In short RICH Republicans are bad , bad, bad for the American worker.
